Busan International Film Festival’s “Japanese Film Night” Highlights the Value of Human Actors and Creators in the Age of AI

HIC.org Secretary-General Young Lee Engages with Korean and Japanese Film Industry Professionals to Discuss the Future of Human Creativity

“As AI Begins to Replace Human Actors and Transform Filmmaking, We Must Protect and Verify the Authenticity of Human Performance and Creativity.”

BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA | October 10, 2026

The “Japanese Film Night,” held on October 9 during the 2026 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), brought renewed attention to the growing international conversation about protecting human identity, artistic authenticity, and creative expression in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).

During the event, Young Lee, Secretary-General of HIC.org (Human Identity / Intelligence Certificate), an international nonprofit initiative, engaged with Korean and Japanese film industry professionals to discuss the profound impact of rapidly advancing AI technologies on filmmaking, acting, and human creativity.

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly capable of replicating human faces, voices, and performances—and even generating complete screenplays and films—the entertainment industry faces a fundamental question:

How can society distinguish, authenticate, and protect artistic works genuinely created and performed by human beings?

■ Protecting Human Identity and Authentic Creativity in the AI Era

In response to these emerging challenges, HIC.org is advancing the concepts of the Human Identity Certificate and the Human Intelligence Certificate.

These initiatives aim to establish an international certification framework capable of distinguishing authentic human creative contributions—including acting, directing, screenwriting, music, and visual arts—from AI-generated content.

The goal is to protect the unique value of human creators while ensuring that audiences, producers, and distributors can identify works genuinely produced through human intelligence, imagination, and artistic expression.

According to HIC.org, as artificial intelligence continues to evolve, the authenticity of human-created works may become an increasingly valuable cultural and economic distinction.

■ Korean and Japanese Film Stars Gather at the Busan International Film Festival

The 31st Busan International Film Festival has brought together prominent actors, directors, producers, and entertainment professionals from across Asia and the international film community.

Among the notable participants are acclaimed South Korean actor Son Suk-ku and renowned Japanese actor Eita Nagayama, whose participation has attracted attention to the growing collaboration between the Korean and Japanese film industries.

Son Suk-ku and Eita Nagayama have also drawn interest through their collaboration in director Han Jun-hee’s film "Blue Road" (푸른길), highlighting the expanding creative partnerships between the two countries.

HIC.org believes that such international artistic collaborations could also provide a foundation for broader cooperation in protecting human creativity, identity, and intellectual contributions in the age of AI.

■ Young Lee: “AI May Create Films, but the Value of Human Creativity Must Never Disappear.”

Speaking about the future of filmmaking and human artistic expression, HIC.org Secretary-General Young Lee emphasized the importance of protecting authentic human contributions.

“In the near future, artificial intelligence will be capable of producing entire films without human actors, generating performances and visual experiences that may be nearly indistinguishable from those created by real people. However, the value of films, performances, and artistic works genuinely created by human beings must be recognized and protected,” Lee stated.

He further explained:

“We are not opposed to the advancement of artificial intelligence. On the contrary, as AI technology becomes more powerful, we believe the world will need international standards to verify human identity, intelligence, and creativity. HIC represents an international effort to prepare for this new era.”

Lee also emphasized that the purpose of human creativity certification is not to restrict technological innovation but to preserve the identity and recognition of human creators in an increasingly AI-driven entertainment industry.

■ HIC.org Plans to Expand International Cooperation Across the Global Film Industry

HIC.org intends to strengthen cooperation with filmmakers, actors, producers, artists, and cultural organizations in South Korea, Japan, and other countries to promote international standards for authentic human creativity.

The initiative seeks to develop systems that can identify and certify genuine human participation in creative works across multiple industries, including:

  • Film and television production
  • Acting and performance
  • Screenwriting and literature
  • Music and composition
  • Visual arts and digital media
  • Other forms of human intellectual and artistic expression

HIC.org envisions a future in which human creativity certification could become an important standard in film credits, content distribution, intellectual property protection, and the broader global creative economy.

“As AI-generated films and human-created films increasingly coexist, audiences should have the right not only to choose what they watch but also to know who—or what—actually created it,” Lee emphasized.

■ About HIC.org

HIC.org (Human Identity / Intelligence Certificate) is an international nonprofit initiative dedicated to protecting, recognizing, and verifying the unique value of human identity, intelligence, creativity, and artistic expression in the age of artificial intelligence.

Through the development of human identity verification and human creativity certification frameworks, HIC seeks to establish international standards that distinguish authentic human contributions from AI-generated content.

The organization promotes a future in which technological advancement coexists with human dignity, intellectual independence, and creative freedom.

HIC.org believes that as artificial intelligence transforms industries worldwide, preserving the authenticity and value of human creativity will become increasingly essential to the future of culture, entertainment, and society.

[PRESS RELEASE]

Busan International Film Festival Participants Recognize the Need for HIC.org’s Human Creativity Certificate in the Age of AI

Director Kang Sot-bul, representing the Directors Guild of Korea, and HIC.org Executive Director Young Lee Discuss Potential Collaboration to Protect Human Creativity at French Film Night

Nicolas Paris, CEO of Renault Korea, Expresses Interest in HIC.org’s Human Verification System and Bobas.ai’s Next-Generation AI Operating System

“In an era when AI can generate virtually everything, a new international standard is needed to verify that creative works are genuinely produced by humans.”

October 10, 2026 | Busan, South Korea

BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA — During the French Film Night event held in conjunction with the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), representatives from the Korean and international film industries expressed shared recognition of the need for a new international certification system to protect human identity, creativity, and intellectual contributions in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).

At the event, Director Kang Sot-bul, representing the Directors Guild of Korea (DGK), met with Young Lee, Executive Director of the international nonprofit organization HIC.org (Human Identity / Intelligence Certificate).

The two exchanged views on the rapidly evolving impact of artificial intelligence on the film industry and human creative activities, establishing common ground on the importance of introducing a Human Creativity Certificate.

The Directors Guild of Korea is a prominent organization representing Korean film directors. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Bong Joon-ho previously served as its president. The organization advocates for directors' creative rights, professional interests, and the continued development of the Korean film industry.

Their discussion focused on one of the most pressing challenges facing the creative industries: how to distinguish and protect works genuinely created by humans in an era when AI can generate screenplays, films, music, and even realistic reproductions of actors' faces and voices.

■ Establishing an International Certification Standard for Human Creativity in the AI Era

HIC.org is developing a Human Creativity Certificate and a Human Identity Certificate designed to distinguish AI-generated content from human-created works while protecting human creativity, identity, and intellectual contributions.

The proposed certification system aims to enable filmmakers, actors, writers, musicians, artists, and other creative professionals to verify and document genuine human participation in their creative works and production processes.

Young Lee, Executive Director of HIC.org, stated:

“In the near future, artificial intelligence may be capable of producing an entire feature film within hours, generating performances that are nearly indistinguishable from those of real human actors, even without any actors physically participating in the production.”

He continued:

“As AI capabilities advance, the very fact that a film, performance, or artistic work was genuinely created by a human being will carry new cultural and economic value.”

Lee further emphasized:

“HIC.org’s Human Creativity Certificate has the potential to evolve beyond a simple verification tool into an international framework for protecting human creativity, intellectual contributions, and the authenticity of human expression.”

■ Renault Korea CEO Nicolas Paris Shows Interest in Human-Centered AI Technology Developed by Bobas.ai

Nicolas Paris, identified as CEO of Renault Korea, who also attended the event, expressed interest in HIC.org’s human verification initiative and the next-generation AI operating system being developed by Bobas.ai.

Bobas.ai is a Silicon Valley-based artificial intelligence technology company involving engineers and professionals with Stanford University backgrounds.

The company is developing AiDOS (AI Direct Operating System), a next-generation, human-centered AI operating system designed to move beyond traditional application-based computing.

Rather than requiring users to navigate multiple applications, AiDOS is being designed to understand human intentions, interpret commands, and coordinate intelligent AI agents to execute tasks.

Bobas.ai is also developing technologies intended to integrate HIC.org’s human identity and creativity certification framework into next-generation AI systems.

The initiative seeks to establish a digital environment in which human identity, human creative contributions, and AI-generated activities can be clearly distinguished.

Its broader vision is to ensure that artificial intelligence serves as a tool to enhance human capabilities and creativity rather than simply replacing human participation.

■ Emmy and Grammy Award Winners Participate in HIC.org’s Global Initiative

HIC.org is an international nonprofit organization involving prominent figures from the entertainment and creative industries, including Emmy Award winner Mark Fin and three-time Grammy Award-winning blues musician Bobby Rush.

The organization aims to establish new international standards for verifying and protecting human identity, creativity, and intellectual contributions across film, music, literature, visual arts, and other creative disciplines.

The film industry is expected to be among the sectors most profoundly transformed by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence.

As AI systems become increasingly capable of generating acting performances, directing visual sequences, composing music, and writing screenplays, the ability to authenticate genuinely human-created productions may become an essential component of the future entertainment industry.

HIC.org believes that a globally recognized Human Creativity Certificate could help audiences, producers, distributors, and creative professionals distinguish authentic human artistic contributions from AI-generated content.

■ Human Verification Industry Could Become Part of a Multitrillion-Dollar Global Economic Ecosystem

HIC.org envisions human verification technology expanding far beyond film and music into education, finance, healthcare, digital identity, online transactions, robotics, and autonomous AI agent ecosystems.

As artificial intelligence increasingly performs economic activities and makes decisions on behalf of individuals and organizations, the ability to distinguish humans from AI systems—and verify authentic human participation—could become a critical component of global digital infrastructure.

HIC.org believes that the broader economic ecosystem supported by human identity verification, creativity certification, and related technologies could potentially generate tens of trillions of dollars in economic value over the long term.

This projection represents a forward-looking vision of potential market development rather than an independently verified estimate of the industry's current size.

Young Lee stated:

“The most important question of the AI era is not simply what artificial intelligence will be capable of doing, but how humanity can preserve, protect, and verify the unique value of being human.”

He added:

“HIC.org seeks to contribute to the establishment of a new international standard that enables people around the world to authenticate their identity, creativity, and intellectual contributions in an increasingly AI-driven society.”

The discussions and exchanges among Korean and international film industry representatives during the Busan International Film Festival marked another step toward introducing HIC.org’s Human Creativity Certificate to the global entertainment industry and exploring opportunities for future international collaboration.
